A
word from our Chairman...
Hi, thanks for taking the time to take a look at our website. Now that you're here perhaps I could take a few minutes to explain what we're trying to do. Our fundamental aim is to make a difference:
There are many ways in which you can help; please start by getting in touch, asking us to keep you updated on our progress and developments. You can contact us in a number of ways outlined here… Read more about our 4 key initiatives (Lira Clinic, Hope Ward, HIV-AIDS and TB Lab), tell others about us and encourage those who can to offer financial support and sponsorship. Thanks once again for your time taken to read this. Kind regards, Kevin. Kevin Duffy Chairman Suubi Trust. Chairman International Medical Foundation. ...back to top Suubi Trust is a UK registered charity, No: 1119874, established in June 2007 to support the work of International Medical Foundation (IMF) in Uganda. Suubi is a Ugandan word meaning 'Hope' which we think captures the essence of our vision to offer expert care, change lives and make a difference to the most vulnerable in Ugandan society. You can read our Governing Document here... The Trustees must apply the income of the Charity in furthering the following Objects:
We are currently supporting each of the following:
Dr. Ian Clarke, the founder and CEO of International Medical Group, first came to Uganda 20 years ago. Kampala is his home and he is very much part of the local business and social community there. Read more about Ian and what he has achieved... Suubi Trust has four Trustees: Kevin Duffy - Founder and Chairman Kevin grew up in Northern Ireland and lived there until being relocated to South Bucks by his employer in 1992. He has worked in Financial Services for more than 25 years and operates his own business providing Interim Management and Consulting services. He is currently engaged as the Head of IT at Wesleyan Assurance in Birmingham. Kevin and his wife Pamela have three children, two of whom are at University and the eldest, now married, has just joined the Police. Pamela works as relationship counsellor for Relate and in her own private practice. Kevin first met Ian Clarke when he was a student at Queens Belfast; Ian was the landlord of Kevin's student house. They were members of the same church in Bangor and then in the 1990s Ian and Robbie moved to England and bought a house just around the corner from the Duffys.Over the years they kept in touch and in recent months, after learning about Hope Ward and having a short fact-finding visit, Kevin decided to start Suubi Trust to help support this and other work that Ian and his team are doing at International Medical Foundation (IMF). Kevin has recently taken the role as Chairman of International Medical Foundation. Steve has lived most of his life in Penn, Buckinghamshire and after grammar school went to Manchester University to study Electronics. He has spent all his working career at the BBC in London, working for Television News. He started in the news studios but soon went on to be a field engineer, then joined the news camera crews, being a cameraman for the last 18 years. Steve has just been fortunate to be offered early retirement at the age of 48, so will now be able to spend more time on hobbies, including photography, and travelling with his wife Debbie. They have been married for 25 years and have twin girls of 22 who are just finishing University. Steve is keen to be actively involved in the Suubi Trust and having been several times to Africa can readily understand the problems that face the people there. Ruth grew up in Northern Ireland, but has since lived in Scotland, Spain and the south of England. She worked as a teacher of Modern Languages in the Portsmouth area, before moving to London to study theology. Since 1994 she has worked for Wycliffe Bible Translators, mainly in their UK office near High Wycombe, but with several trips to Africa and Asia. At present she is combining a role in Personnel with part-time study for a Masters degree in the Management of Voluntary Organisations at the University of Southampton. Ruth met Ian and Robbie when they attended the same church in High Wycombe - strange how the Irish always seem to find each other! Ryan was born in Northern Ireland but has mainly been brought up in England, where his family moved to in the early nineties. He was successful in school and went on to the University of Kent in Canterbury to study applied social psychology, which included a year working in an addiction rehabilitation centre. Since graduating he has applied and been accepted into the Kent police. Ryan got married in the summer of 2006 to Nikki, who is a primary school teacher in Canterbury, where they both now live. Over the past few years, Ryan and Nikki have been part of teams set up by their local church, to visit and work alongside charities in western Kenya for a few weeks at a time, whilst also doing some travelling on the side. These experiences have been a major factor in his desire to see IMF grow from strength to strength with the support of Suubi Trust. ...back to top Contact us...
